Anticipated growth influences buying of materials

13 Feb 2014

The 2014 enrolment for tertiary programmes will only take place in July 2014 and the procurement of related materials has commenced on the projected targets.

The Assistant Minister of Education and Skills Development, Mr Patrick Masimolole said enrolment for Junior Certificate (JC) and Botswana General Certificate of Secondary Education (BGCSE) at Botswana College of Distance and Open Learning (BOCODOL) started on February 3, and will close on March 28, when the targets are reached whichever comes first.

Answering a question in Parliament on February, 11 Mr Masimolole said the study materials were supplied anticipating growth as influenced by the back to school initiative last year.

He said it had not yet come to their notice that these materials were in short supply, and also informed the house that the enrolment was being closely monitored and should that arise, appropriate measures would be put in place to address the emerging needs.

The Member of Parliament for Kgalagadi North, Mr Philip Khwae had asked the minister if he was aware that there was shortage of books at the Botswana College of Distance and Open Learning (BOCODOL) in Kang and also to state what plans were in place to address the problem. ENDS
