Kanye police not investigating ritual killings
13 Feb 2014
The Botswana Police Service (BPS) in Kanye is not and has not investigated any ritual killings whereby victims were abducted, killed or dumped, the Minister of Defence, Justice and Security, Mr Dikgakgamatso Seretse has said.
Mr Seretse, however, said Kanye police were still investigating circumstances under which two young men who were initially reported as missing on April 23, 2012 and August 9, 2013 respectively, were later found dead in the outskirts of Kanye.
Responding to a question in Parliament from the Member of Parliament for Kanye South MP, Mr Abram Kesupile, Minister Seretse said so far there had not been any arrest relating to the two deaths. Furthermore, the minister said different techniques were used to investigate different types of cases of homicide.
MP Kesupile had asked the minister to state progress made in identifying, arresting and prosecuting the suspects responsible for the abduction, killing and dumping of remains of the two recent victims of ritual killings of Goo-Kgano and Goo-Logaba wards in Kanye.
He also wanted the defence, justice and security minister to state the scheme or programme in place aimed at addressing these types of killings or practice. ENDS
