Moshupa hospital 96 per cent complete

06 Aug 2025

Construction of 70 beds capacity Moshupa Primary Hospital is at 96 per cent complete.

Answering a question in Parliament on Tuesday, the Minister of Health Dr Stephen Modise said as such, a partial handover of the hospital, which included the administration block and store was expected end of August 2025, which would allow for preliminary preparations, staff orientation and logistical installations ahead of the commissioning.

He said the remaining sections of the hospital were expected to be completed by end of October 2025 pending final inspections and finishing works.

“We remain confident that all timelines will be met without compromising the safety and quality standards required of such a vital institution.

While the official commissioning has not yet been set, it is planned to occur before the end of November 2025,” he said.

The event, he said, would mark the formal opening of the facility and ensure provision of health care services in Moshupa village and surrounding areas.

Dr Modise said the primary hospital would provide an integrated health care in curative, preventative and rehabilitation services (outpatient and inpatient) designed to meet the needs of the community.

He said the outpatient services would include a General Outpatient Department with specialised clinics such as eye clinic, Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDS), mental health, youth friendly services, ARV/HAART treatment, oral health, physiotherapy, dietetics and social welfare consultations.

The clinics, he said, would play a vital role in managing chronic conditions and supporting vulnerable populations.

Dr Modise said the inpatient care on the other hand would encompass general medical, surgical, gynaecological, paediatric, maternity and psychiatric services, with designated facilities for tuberculosis isolation.

He said the services reflected the ministry’s commitment to ensure comprehensive care for patients across all age groups and health conditions.

Dr Modise said the primary hospital would also provide key diagnostic and support services, which would include a laboratory, parmacy, radiology and medical equipment maintenance services, working in synergy to ensure timely and accurate treatment delivery.

He said support functions such as supplies, kitchen, laundry, mortuary, transport (ambulance and non-ambulance) would be in place to ensure quality standards.

Dr Modise said a total number of 365 staff was to be deployed to the hospital, which included clinical staff, support services staff as well as administrative and corporate services personnel.

Minister Modise was responding to a question from the Moshupa-Manyana MP, Mr Karabo Gare who wanted to know when Moshupa Primary Hospital would be commissioned, the type of services that would be provided at the hospital and the staff complement expected to be deployed at the hospital.
