13 Feb 2014
The Assistant Minister of Agriculture, Mr Oreeditse Molebatsi has told Parliament that the Maun Rice Project was a success during its inception period but it was abandoned when the Thamalakane River seized to flow perennially.
He said the project was run by the Ministry of Agriculture in collaboration with the Chinese experts who had long departed to their native country. Mr Molebatsi said the current financial constraints and under resourced technical expertise did not allow ministry to revive the project.
The assistant minister was answering a question from MP for Maun East, Mr Frank Ramsden who had asked if the ministry would consider reviving the Maun Rice Project which was a success during its inception period. ENDS
