Botswana and Morocco sign cooperation

Botswana Karate Association has entered into a bilateral cooperation with the Moroccan Royal Karate Federation (FRMK), a strategic move that aims to enhance karate development in the two nations.

BOKA president, Mpho Bakwadi told BOPA that the partnership was not merely a formal gesture, but a meaningful collaboration that promised practical benefits for both federations.

With Morocco being a continental powerhouse in karate, known for its high-performance athletes, technical expertise, and strong organisational structures, Botswana stands to gain access to its rich resources and experience that would elevate our standards in all aspects of the sport, Bakwadi said.

He explained that the key areas of cooperation included technical support which would be based more on sharing coaching methods, referee training, and organisational best practices.

Bakwadi said there was also joint training and development camps, where athletes and officials would take part in joint training sessions and seminars to build skills and knowledge as well as exchange programmes that would open opportunities for athletes and coaches from both countries to train and learn in each other’s environments.

He further explained that Botswana athletes might be invited to Moroccan tournaments, giving them valuable international exposure and experience.

“This cooperation will directly contribute to the growth of elite karate in Botswana, enhance our competitiveness on the African continent and global stage, and build lasting ties between our two federations,” he said.

Bakwadi said it was also a step toward long-term development, mutual support, and sporting excellence.

The partnership is a forward-looking initiative that promotes unity through sport and supports the broader development of karate in Botswana, Bakwadi said.  ENDS
