Ministry Awaits Completion of A10 Road Design

30 Jul 2025

The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure is currently awaiting the final detailed designs on the A10 Road project.

Answering a question in Parliament on Tuesday, Minister Noah Salakae, said the preliminary design of the project was approved in 2024 to enable progression to the detailed design and construction stage.

He said the project entailed the design and the construction of a dual carriageway road from Mogoditshane Pula Spar past Gabane all the way to Mmankgodi junction.

The minister said it comprises the 25.1 km of the A10 road between Mogoditshane (Gabane junction) and Mmankgodi junction and the 4.6km urban road link between Paul Rantao Road (Pula Spar) and the A10 road (Gabane junction).

“Running parallel to this is the land expropriation and the relocation of utility services, namely power, water and telecommunication infrastructure along the road. These early works, which have been contracted to a joint venture of three citizen contractors are a priority in the execution of the project,” Mr Salakae revealed.

Attending to the works now, he said, was a risk mitigation strategy as that would ensure that the government does not incur any additional costs associated with delays arising from the expropriation of land and relocation of utility services after construction commenced.

Furthermore, he said the construction has been held in abeyance pending completion of the aforementioned mitigation measures for land expropriation and utility relocation.

The minister also told Parliament that the detailed processes took time since they involved many stakeholders such as plot owners, the land boards and other relevant authorities responsible for assessment and valuation.

As the mitigation measures from part of the costed project risks, Mr Salakae said they are not expected to impact negatively on the agreed project construction costs.

“I am aware of the condition and the bad state of the A10 Road and a contractor has been engaged to carry out routine maintenance on this road to ensure that potholes are attended to on time. Continuous monitoring by the ministry is in place to prevent further deterioration,” he added.

He was responding to a question from Thamaga-Kumakwane MP, Mr Palelo Motaosane who had asked him to update the house on the progress of the A10 road project.

He also asked the minister to state the cause of the delay, if the delay would not alter the project amount and if he was aware of the bad state of the road and what he was doing to mitigate the status quo. ENDS
