Cycling Proceeds to Facilitate Clinic Construction

The General Manager of Lucara Botswana, Johane Mchive has pledged to build a clinic through proceeds made during the 2025 GM’s cycling challenge.

Mr Mchive announced this during the awards ceremony of Lucara GM’s cycling challenge in Letlhakane on Sunday.

He informed the cyclists that the primary school that was planned for during the 2024 GM’s cycling challenge was now in existence. 

He said the school was constructed to a tune of over P5 million at Makgaba in Boteti.

Mchive indicated that there were 34 schools in Boteti, which had all been equipped with eLibraries, which he said was a strategic way of closing a digital gap.

Abari-Com, he said provided free WiFi to the schools and the total costs amounted to over P500 000. 

He said the 2025 cycling challenge called for resilience as they embarked on another initiative to impact the lives of Batswana. The event was held under the theme: Cycling for a Lasting Impact, 10 years of Making a Difference.

For his part, the Chief walker and First National Bank Botswana (FNBB) Human Capital Director Mlungisi Jackson commended Mchive for using cycling as a catalyst to make meaningful impact in local communities.

He said they were excited to learn how the 2025 initiative had performed and how Lucara Botswana would continue to advance its impact, guided by the 10 Sustainable Development Goals which they were committed to.

“Lucara Botswana’s ability to partner with a wide range of companies to enhance community development in Botswana is commendable,” he reiterated.

Jackson also applauded Lucara GM for introducing the Junior Cyclist programme which, he said was aimed at nurturing talent in Boteti region from grassroots level.

He presented customised cheque of P100 000 in support of the outstanding initiative on behalf of FNBB.

He said Lucara Botswana stood as an example of how diamonds and the industries behind them could be harnessed to create a lasting change.

The Member of Parliament for Boteti East, Mr Keoagile Atamelang commended Lucara for making a significant impact on the lives of the local communities

Thabiso Mokalake of Team Swift scooped position one in 120 kilometres elite males category, seconded by Nkulume Dube of Khoemacau Cycling Challenge whilst Lebone Rammidi of Jwaneng Cycling Club grabbed position three.

In the veterans 120 kilometers’ male category, Amos Chajadza, Shine Doko and Jackson Ruwona all from Khoemacau scooped positions one, two and three respectively. ENDS
