The atmosphere at the Bangwaketse main kgotla Conference Room was filled with joy and heartfelt celebration on  Friday as staff organised a surprise 61st birthday party for Kgosi Malope II, of Bangwaketse. 

The event began with warm words from Senior Chief Representative Kwelagobe Mookodi, who took to the podium to explain the simple yet meaningful aim of the gathering, that it was to come together and sing a birthday song for their beloved leader.  Deputy District Commissioner Norman Patlakwe delivered a heartfelt tribute, applauding Kgosi Malope’s unwavering dedication to his duties. 

“He is always available in his office, a rare quality that made me realise what true leadership looks like. This nation also recognised those qualities by appointing him as the Leader of Ntlo Ya Dikgosi,” he added. 

In a light-hearted moment, the Commissioner offered the Chief a few tongue-in-cheek tips on staying youthful. 

“Live honestly, eat slowly to aid digestion, and lie about your age!” 

Kgosi Malope received the surprise with a broad smile and expressed sincere gratitude to everyone who contributed to the celebration. He extended his appreciation to the organisers and all guests who made time to attend.  The surprise party was not just a celebration of a birthday, but also a tribute to the enduring legacy and leadership of a highly respected traditional leader.
