Parents have been encouraged to support their children to participate  in various sports and showcase talents.

Botswana National Sports Commission (BNSC), Sport Development Officer, Gakologelwang Masheto said sport was profitable and would make one wealthy. He said BNSC still wanted to scout for more talents from different parts of the country such as Matshelagabedi.

Masheto was speaking at an occasion where Matshelagabedi Festive Tournament committee was donating a printer worth P8 000 to Matshelagabedi Primary School recently. He acknowledged the committee for the gesture noting that the printer, came handy and would ease day to day work of the teachers, creating a positive impact in the leaners’ school work. He encouraged Matshelagabedi community and the leadership to support the  festive tournament in their endeavors.

The Chairperson of Matshelagabedi Festive Tournament Committee, Shingile Malibaba said as the committee they came a long way in ensuring that the tournament became a success. He said the tournament started as a way of socialising which then brought the courage of developing it further through raising of funds to grow it.

Apart from giving back to the community, Malibali said the aim of the tournament was to take away youth from streets where social ills were common, and encouraged them to focus in sports. He further noted that the tournament donated P1,000 to Matshelagabedi Village Development Committee in 2022 and when they experienced growth in 2024 they decided and planned to donate to Matshelagabedi Primary School.

“After engaging and assessing the need at the school, we decided to buy the printer worth P8,000 and other items which brought the overall cost close to P9,000,” he explained.

Malibala encouraged the Matshelagebedi community to offer support to Matshelagabedi Festive Tournament as that would help to achieve its mandate and ensure a further support to the community.

Head of Department-Infant, at the school, Agnes Peter thanked the committee for donating a printer to the school, saying the awesome work would address challenges they faced. Peter noted that the school had 745 learners, emphasising that printing had been a challenge since they had only a small printer which printed a maximum of 100 copies a day.

“With this donation, we are hopeful that our challenges will be solved.”

Peter indicated that the donated printer would serve as a motivation in terms of performance. ENDS
