12 Feb 2014
The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development has no plans to appoint headmen of arbitration in towns or cities.
Answering a question in Parliament on Tuesday, February 11, the Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Ms Botlogile Tshireletso said section 22(1) of the Bogosi Act restricted the appointments of headmen of arbitration to tribal territories or tribal areas only.
MP for Gaborone South, Mr Kagiso Molatlhegi had asked the minister if she was aware that Old Naledi and Urban customary courts did not have headmen of arbitration. He also wanted the minister to state if she did not deem it appropriate to appoint them and also to state the timeline for these appointments. ENDS
