Bank capacitates women entrepreneurs

Undertsanding the legalities of businesses is crucial, says Mr Keletso Tebele, Senior Legal Advisor at Absa Bank Botswana.
He was speaking at a workshop held by the bank for women entrpreneurs recently. The workshop aimed at equipping women in small businesses with essential legal knowledge, financial skills as well as building business and leadership skills by offering practical knowledge in areas such as business development, finance, marketing, networking, and decision-making. It also featured insights on the importance of understanding legalities crucial for business success.
Mr Tebele highlighted key legal requirements for small businesses, including the necessity of having clear terms and conditions related to sales and orders, employment contracts for staff, and the protection of intellectual property, especially for those in the service sector.
He urged women entrepreneurs to familiarise themselves with pertinent laws such as the Data Protection Act and the Employment and Labour Relations Act to safeguard their enterprises. Business Development Manager at Absa Bank Botswana, Ms Bakang Dinku, expressed the organisation’s hopes that the workshop would bolster participants’ confidence and motivation.
“At the end of this workshop, we hope to have increased confidence and motivation from participants with gained practical skills and knowledge, as we believe the new tools and strategies can help their businesses and careers,” she said.
Additionally, the workshop aimed to expand the professional networks of women entrepreneurs and raise awareness of available resources, funding opportunities, and support systems to aid their business growth. It also addressed challenges faced by women in business, by highlighting and openly discussing unique barriers women faced in businesses; such as access to capital, gender bias, and work-life balance.
And, it provided tools, strategies, and inspiration to help women build confidence, take initiative, and lead effectively in business environments. The workshop is part of Absa Bank Botswana’s efforts to empower women in business and foster economic development. ENDS
