The second edition of the Tebogelo Thobo  slated for July 31, is expected to be substantially monumental buoyed by ‘sufficient’ rainfalls that spurred arable farming and subsequent improved harvest.  

Despite the inaugural event being a huge success, this year’s edition is expected to be considerably better due to the expected increased harvests, the  event’s committee chairperson Monkemedi Dingalo observed in an interview recently.

“This was a better year in terms of rains and harvest and we expect to showcase better than last year whilst also imparting knowledge to the young ones on our traditional practices,” he said

The increased harvests would result in farmers contributing substantially to the traditional savings and or reserve silos under the custodian of Kgosi Joel Masilo.

Dingalo explained that the reserves under the custody of kgosi would be tapped on during dire times as determined by the kgosi.

The savings are usually used to help the less privileged and or the poor and some mephato engaged in some community service as combating livestock theft that has been ravaging the area, according to Dingalo.

The committee is currently receiving contributions from various extension areas of Bobonong north and south to host a refined show at the village main kgotla.

“Despite the low harvests last year, people came in droves to support and witness Tebogelo Thobo event which seeks amongst other things to resuscitate our cultural traditions which hitherto have been relegated to oral traditions,” said Dingalo who expected a bigger crowd this year.

The event is also earmarked to be transformed into a district level if and when an agreement is reached by all arable farmers across Bobirwa. 

The gesture was demonstrated by inviting all dikgosi across the villages in Bobirwa to grace this year’s event with a view of caressing them into consideration of a wider and all-Bobirwa encompassing show.

To render the show a success, Dingalo rallied all the farmers in Bobonong to partake in preparations for the event expected to be officially opened by Botswana Development Corporation’s managing director, Cross Kgosidiile. ENDS
