Three supporters who traveled to Casablanca to cheer for the senior women’s national football team during the TotalEnergies WAFCON group stages have been celebrated for their unwavering support and sacrifices.
Daniel Monareng, Metsiatsile Lefatshe and Billy Tambula arrived in Casablanca prior to the matches to witness the team’s crucial games against Algeria, Nigeria, and Tunisia.
Throughout the matches, they cheered and sung for the team, inspiring both players and officials alike.
Head Coach Alex Malete expressed his appreciation, stating, ‘you made a significant impact, the players and technical team felt your support deeply. We will never forget you, your encouragement helped us play better.”
According to Malete, despite the limited number of supporters, just the three of them, their voices and spirit surpassed even the larger crowds.
“Your voices and energy motivated the players, especially during challenging moments,” he added.
Keleeme Bahakgametse, the team’s head of delegation, praised the supporters’ influence, saying, “You touched the players with your songs and presence. Your support contributed to our better performance, including the victory against Tunisia, which we dedicated to you.”
He also shared that the team invited the three supporters to have breakfast with the players as a token of appreciation.
Lefatshe, one of the supporters, expressed joy over the team’s progress.
“We are satisfied; the players improved with each game. Honestly, we do not regret spending our last resources to come and support you,” she said.
The supporters revealed that they divided their support efforts across the three matches, with Monareng leading during the Nigeria game, Tambula cheering during the same, and Lefatshe supporting during the Tunisia game. “Seeing the team win at least one game was a bonus for us, and we will keep supporting you,” she added.
The trio departed Casablanca on Monday after the conclusion of the group stage. Meanwhile, DTC Botswana also had two representatives who left on the same day, underscoring the collective national pride and support for the women’s team at the tournament. ENDS
