The Matsieng Air Show is a privately organised event and exclusively managed by DeWet Drilling Company while the Ministry of Environment and Tourism participated as a sponsor through the Botswana Tourism Organisation. 

This was revealed by the acting Minister of Environment and Tourism, Major General Pius Mokgware to Parliament on July 8. Answering a parliamentary question, he said since the ministry’s involvement in the event was primarily in a supportive capacity rather than in organising or making key decisions, DeWet Drilling Company held full authority over all aspects of the event, including planning, execution and whether or not it took place. 

Subsequently, he noted that the decision to host the event rested ultimately with the company. He was responding to a question by MP for Kgatleng Central, Mr Mpho Morolong who had asked what led to the stoppage of the Matsieng Air Show and whether there were any plans to resuscitate it in the near future.
