Bonno to generate greater returns

President Advocate Duma Boko says the 61 000 constituency housing units that will be delivered through the Bonno National Housing Programme will benefit not only the individual homeowners but will also generate greater returns for the broader community.
President Boko was speaking in Palapye on July 7 at the launch of the 61 000 housing units that will see government delivering 1 000 houses in each of the 61 constituencies across the country over a period of two years.
He said the construction phase of the project would create numerous jobs for locals, providing the much needed employment opportunities, particularly for young people.
President Boko said the project was a multi-sectoral effort to restore dignity, create jobs, empower communities and foster inclusive economic growth.
He emphasised that the programme was designed to support individuals from different economic backgrounds, ensuring inclusivity in the housing sector.
“We are creating wealth and placing it in the hands of the most ordinary of our people," he said.
He said adequate housing was essential for the protection of fundamental human rights such as health, education and work.
He said he was optimistic that government would deliver the target of the housing units within the set time frame.
President Boko said the housing project would boost industries like cement and brick production and ultimately create a higher demand for them, leading to growth in those specific industries.
He thus called on communities in different areas of the country to take advantage of the opportunity and set up relevant industries.
Minister of Water and Human Settlement, Mr Onneetse Ramogapi encouraged Batswana to utilise the Bonno National Housing Programme in order to have adequate, safe and affordable housing.
He said the programme was a significant step toward addressing the housing shortage in the country where a lot of people struggled to afford even the most basic housing.
The programme encompasses a variety of housing schemes tailored to meet the diverse needs of the population, including the Bonno Home Improvement Loan Scheme aimed at completing, improving and renovating existing homes to improve their quality and liveability.
The other scheme, targeting individuals earning within the range of the D4 salary scale is specifically designed to support the working class, including non-public officers earning at equivalent levels. ENDS
