The Mares enjoy home support

07 Jul 2025

The Mares are set to enjoy support from home as they compete in the TotalEnergies Women’s WAFCON Morocco 2024.

To play their role in supporting the women’s football, Diamond Trading Company Botswana (DTCB) has sent a two-person delegation to rally behind The Mares. DTCB corporate affairs manager, Macdonald Motsele and diamond sorter Matshediso Radipata arrived on Saturday and they will watch all the Mares three games.

“It was only right that we come and see what is shaping up, to be an end product, it is not an end product yet, an end product it is when we qualify for the World Cup, this is still a journey  and there is still more, to be done,” said Motsele.

He said DTCB had invested in good initiative of women’s football, adding that a good number of the Mares players were a product of the initiative they continue to support as an organisation. For the past four years, DTCB has been hosting the annual women’s football champions,  a tournament which is credited for empowering women and giving them an opportunity to shine.

“It is not only showing face, but we have come to witness something that we as DTCB started four years ago,” said Motsele.

Furthermore, he said DTCB would remain a partner to women’s football to ensure that they reach their full potential. Motsele said women’s football needed a lot of support and for DTCB it was not only building a brand, but making a difference in a girl child’s life. In that regard, he said they would be happy to see more entities investing in the women’s football.

“We just want to witness growth and even surpass what we see in the men’s football. As DTCB we see the benefits of associating with women’s football,” he said.

To add on to the hype, three member of the national team supporters’ delegation also arrived in Casablanca on Saturday.

The three, Daniel Monareng, Billy Tambula and Metsiatsile Lefatshe said they found it important to come and rally behind the team, given that they have much hope for the Mares. Monareng said the three of them represent the over two million in Botswana, adding that each one of them had been assigned a team.

“I will be in the lead supporter against Algeria, Lefatshe will face Tunisia, while Tambula will lead in the game against Nigeria, of course Batswana will be with us in spirit,” he said.

Furthermore, Monareng said theirs was purely a volunteerism spirit that led them to each pay all their expenses, hence they want to make their stay in Morocco a meaningful and impactful one.

“We are here to support and cheer our team up, we want to propel them to make it to the next stage of the tournament,” he said. ENDS
