Family honours Sir Seretse

The family of former President Sir Seretse Khama commemorated his birthday on July 1 with a wreath-laying ceremony at the royal cemetery in Serowe, paying tribute to both Sir Seretse and Lady Ruth Khama.

The event took place amidst a backdrop of cultural significance and communal unity. Addressing  Bangwato  at Serowe Main Kgotla during Sir Seretse Khama Day, Kgosi Khama IV highlighted that the celebrations commenced with a marathon aimed at fostering peace and harmony among  Bangwato and other tribes in Botswana.

Kgosi Khama appreciated the Office of the President, for its contribution to Sir Seretse Khama Day and Batswana, for celebrating Sir Seretse Khama’s legacy.

Former Bangwato regent, Kgosi Sediegeng Kgamane, said Sir Seretse Khama had achieved free widespread education in Botswana and sought to diversify and strengthen the country’s economy.

He said Sir Seretse’s vision for a united Botswana ignited hope for a brighter future.

“Sir Seretse be remembered for nation- building efforts and his visionary stance on inclusive development, “said Kgosi Kgamane.

Khama III Memorial Museum in Serowe, curator Mr Scorbiehonol Lekhutile shared the Khama family lineage. ENDS
