SEDC trains beneficiaries

The South East District Council (SEDC) on February 10 held a workshop to empower disadvantaged people who are earmarked to benefit from the poverty eradication programme.
The workshop, which was organised by the department of social and community development, was attended by six women and four men. Speaking at the workshop, chairperson of Ramotswa sub-council, Mr Thabang Keakile said the training was a welcome development as it would help participants take poverty head on.
Mr Keakile said it was impressive to see women making an effort to develop themselves and their country. He further explained that the training programme catered for every member of society including those living with disabilities.
“The main aim of this training programme is to encourage the spirit of self-reliance through training people in different life skills,” he said. Mr Mothusi Molefe, an environmental health inspector from the council, encouraged the participants to observe hygiene in their operations.
He said food should be prepared in a clean environment to prevent diseases such as food poisoning and diarrhea. He told participants that their businesses will attract more customers if they maintain good hygiene.
The workshop was meant to empower the participants so that they use their newly acquired skills to improve their lives. ENDS
