24 Jun 2025

In a heart-breaking fashion, Elite Academy stunned UB Relics ladies, commanding 56-42 victory during Botswana basketball regular season league game played at Ba Isago courts on Sunday.

Led by Lame Ntwaagae’s 16-point and 7 rebounds performance, Elite Academy showed their determination and resilience in a strong team effort. Ntwaagae along with other four starters; Ntlafatso Gabobofane, Tlotlo Mokgadi and Opelo Phirinyane were all on the board with single digits on both offensive and defensive rebounds, leading the charge for Elite Academy’s impressive victory.

Elite Academy opened the game struggling offensively, shooting only 29 per cent from the field and an abnormally low 7 per cent from three-point range in the first half. Lefika Dintsi, 14 points off the bench, her first of the season, was also significant on both ends of the floor as she recorded points in just 17 minutes in the court.

Relics faced a sluggish start, falling behind early as Gabobofane scored first two points after Relics missed their initial shots from the free throw line. Despite a hefty halftime deficit of 11-19, UB Relics nearly overturned the game, with team captain Naledi Ramorobjwa 9 points and 20 rebounds showcasing a significant second-half resurgence, but it was nonetheless Elite’s offensive energy that kept them in the lead.

In the second half, Elite Academy strong performance proved too much for their opponents, with Dintsi running the floor to lead the explosive offense that scored 30 points in the second half. The team shot an impressive 47.5 per cent from the field and 45.5 per cent from three-point range.

Ntwaagae and Dintsi combined for 30 points, ultimately giving Elite Academy a commanding 14 points lead at the end of the final buzzer. It was a three-pointer by Ntwaagae with 4:30 remaining on the clock that propelled Elite Academy into their first lead of the night.

Notwithstanding starting the game on a low note, Relics made a ferocious comeback in the fourth quarter scoring 13 points to make the game exciting, through a series of back-and-forth scoring exchanges that made the game fiercely contested until the very end.

Other league games played over the weekend, Police V men went riot on Platinum Warriors with a dominant 96-34 victory while Glen Valley lost to Aspire 35-45 in a low scoring encounter. Ba isago University defeated the once mighty Troopers 62-35 and Spartans narrowly defeated Mustang 69-52. ENDS
