Young Riders impress at Shredders Bike Series

22 Jun 2025

The much anticipated kiddies mountain biking race dubbed Bike Shredders Series lived up to expectation with over 80 budding riders going for the jugular on a chilly Saturday morning.

The morning buzzed with excitement as eager young riders arrived to take on the rugged single tracks along the Mokolodi terrains.

According to race organiser, Gobona Mantle of Life Cycle Bicycle coaching, events and timing, the route offered a true test of endurance and courage with winding trails and undulating climbs.

She said the young riders rose to the challenge muscling through the course and showing remarkable determination.

“Support came not just from the sidelines but along the trail itself. Many parents ran sections of the route, offering encouragement and even the occasional helpful push to riders needing a boost.

The camaraderie between participants and families turned the event into more than just a race, it became a celebration of youth cycling,” she added.

Mantle said the turnout exceeded expectations with over 80 young riders participating, a significant achievement for grassroots cycling development.

She added that the Bike Series continued with two more races later this year promising even more opportunities for young riders to challenge themselves.

In the 20km race boys aged 15 to 18, Simphiwe Potongwane was unchallenged arriving in 48:35.

Myara Mantle scooped position one in the girls category beating Ryana Kenaope and Loapi Mmokele in the second and third spot respectively.

In the 10km race for boys aged 14 and below, Setso Mokgatitswane came first in 41:28.

Jessica Tshomane won the girls 10km race beating Kyara Kenaope and Ayame Semadi to the first spot.

In the 5km race for boys aged 10 and below, Liam Joseph clocked 22:05 ahead of Lochlann Roddy and Henry Davies.
