Mourners pay last respects to Khwee pupil

Baone Ngongorego of Khwee Primary School was laid to rest of Friday in Letlhakane.

Ngongorego, who was a Standard One pupil, died on June 12 trying to flee as some learners believed to have seen an unknown creature in their hostel at the school.

According to the police, the deceased got injured as other pupils attempted to assist her escape through the window, which resulted in suffocation and sustaining head injuries, leading to her death. 

Sharing message of condolences from the Minister of Child Welfare and Basic Education, Chief Education Officer in Boteti, Ms Oratile Thonkga said no parent had to bury their child, hence she encouraged the mother to look up to the Lord for strength and wisdom.

She said government was committed to improving quality of life for all people including learners.

Ms Thonkga noted that the Inter Ministerial Committee appointed by President Advocate Duma assigned to the situation of Basarwa, was one of government’s commitment to ensure equity and quality of life for all.

For his part, Council Secretary for Boteti District, Mr Mphaphi Kgomotso said the family would be kept on the loop concerning the case, which was still under police investigation.

The deceased’s uncle, Mr Aupa Ngongorego said they wanted solid information on the cause of her death.

The class teacher, Ms Onneile Kurwana described the deceased as well-mannered pupil, who had a promising future. ENDS
