The annual Lobatse Heritage Hike dubbed 'Keep Walking, Kae kapa Kae',  attracted approximately 200 hikers who climbed the scenic Peleng Hill this morning.

Lead hiker Mr Emmanuel Motsemme said the 10 kilometres hike was targeted at showcasing the heritage of Lobatse and it's scenic view, adding that the hike attracted an impressive number of participants this year. The event started at Peleng Kgotla and the hikers walked past the Fish Keitseng Monument, before climbing the hill.

"We had an amazing view of the Peleng dam and went past the gorge, rested and had braai and snacks and then went to the Samora Machel Museum and back to the Kgotla," Mr Motsemme shared.

The event aims to make people aware of the beauty of the Peleng hill and the adjacent Peleng dam, as well as other heritage sites in the historic town of Lobatse.

"We want to bring people together from across Botswana and other countries and share the history of Lobatse as the town of many firsts, the tarred road, bank, radio, legislative council and the constitution of Botswana was drawn here and the independence we got from here so we want everyone to know what this means for us," Mr Motsemme added.

Mr Motsemme pointed that the hikers came from Lobatse, Gaborone and surrounding areas, adding that they would intensify their marketing strategy to atttact more hikers from neighbouring countries. ENDS
