In an effort to showcase the talent of youth in Tonota, local residents Kedumetse Morapetsane and Kenosi Japane have organised a football tournament set to take place tomorrow  in Tonota. 

The initiative, dubbed Tonota Top Four Tournament  follows conclusion of the Tonota Mini League, which has recently wrapped up its season. Morapetsane, who is the Public Relations Officer for the tournament, explained that with no teams currently participating in any official leagues, they decided to establish a mini league. 

This initiative aims to engage the youth of Tonota in positive activities and keep them off the streets. Morapetsane noted that the eight teams that competed in the Mini League which included Thebephatshwa, Zone 14, Zola Kings, Shashe Black T, Lephane W, Eleven Men, Jungle B, and FC Mamepe, were not affiliated with either the Botswana Football Association (BFA) or the Francistown Regional Football Association (FRAFA). 

After the Mini League, the organisers selected the top four teams to compete in the upcoming tournament. These teams include Thebephatshwa, Zone 14, Zola Kings, and Shashe Black T.  The tournament, according to Morapetsane, would provide a platform for players to demonstrate their skills and potentially attract the attention of scouts from teams affiliated with FRAFA. 

In terms of prizes, he said the tournament would reward the top performers and the first-place team would receive P1 000, a trophy, and gold medals while the second-place team would receive P500 and bronze medals. The third-place team will take home P250 and silver medals while the fourth-place team will receive P150. 

Morapetsane also mentioned that the tournament had attracted sponsorship from several local businesses, including Ben Fox Holdings, MG Investment, Lit Shine Chemicals, Marung Investment, Fank Security, and Jey Seb Boys and Girls Foundation. He said this support underscored the community’s commitment to fostering youth talent in Tonota.
