BFA and Orange to renew FA Cup deal
12 Jun 2025
Botswana Football Association (BFA) is adamant that Orange Botswana will renew the Orange FA Cup sponsorship after expiry of the current agreement tomorrow.
Orange Botswana and BFA initially signed the FA Cup sponsorship agreement in 2019 under a three-year deal. The partnership was renewed in 2022 for another three years and it is set to conclude at the end of the 2024/2025 football season. As the curtain falls down on the final phase of deal, BFA chief executive offer Mfolo Mfolo has expressed optimism about the renewal, noting that both the association and the sponsor were finalising proposal write-ups for another three-years extension.
“We are committed to the continuation of the Orange FA Cup as it avails the perfect platform for national team selection committee to scout players from lower divisions,” Mfolo said in a press conference on Tuesday.
He commended the partnership between the two entities for availing a platform where the ‘cheer boy’ could compete directly against ‘his hero'.
“The Orange FA Cup is one of the association’s major tournaments which incorporates teams from lower divisions and the elite league. It is the only opportunity for lower league teams to rub shoulders with their elite league idols, hence the competitiveness of the tournament,” Mfolo said.
He said the FA Cup lived to its expectations over the years with every team, either big or small making an effort to reach the finals.
“This truly proves the importance of all teams to the association. Teams put up an important show when it comes to the FA and the advancement of the Security Systems to the finals is testament to that effect,” he said.
Orange Botswana Wholesale and Digital Innovation Manager, Donald Joseph applauded the Orange-BFA sponsorship as a national movement and strategic investment in youth and community development. He said the Orange FA Cup had since its inception been a strategic investment and the embodiment of Orange Botswana's long standing commitment to sport development, youth empowerment and community uplifting.
“Our goal during the sponsorship deal has always been to build a national platform that gives every team an equal opportunity to dream and compete and bring life to football communities,” he said.
Joseph stated that Orange Botswana invested over P2.5 million in this year’s edition to cover all expenses and logistics.
Meanwhile, organisers announced the Season 6 Award nominees which includes goalkeeper of the tournament, Mwampule Masule from Security Systems, Lesang Senne from VTM FC, Victor James from Jwaneng Galaxy and Cedric Ramojela from Matebele FC.
The player of the tournament nominees are Jwaneng Galaxy trio of Thero Setsile, Onkabetse Makgantai and Gilbert Baruti, and Ronel Manyanga from Matebele FC as well as Tshepo Keselebale and Michael Tinye both from Security Systems.
