 Edwin Madigela emerged victorious with a score of 225, narrowly defeating Slenda Sithebe by a single stroke with a score of 226 over three rounds at the Cresta Jwaneng Golf Tournament held over the weekend. 

In a remarkable comeback, Madigela started the second round six shots behind the lead but displayed exceptional skill to reclaim the top position. Fish Pabalinga finished in third place with a score of 239, 14 strokes off the lead. In the amateur category, Mathew Mortimer secured the championship with a score of 223, finishing seven shots over par and beating his closest competitor, Kesentseng Dube by 13 shots. Dube concluded the tournament with a score of 237, followed by Lone Masalila at 242. 

The ladies champion is Lynda Tshireletso, who scored 183 over two rounds, with Yaone Mokgatle taking second place, and Thomo Pule finishing third, 14 strokes behind Tshireletso. In the junior categories, Kaone Tshireletso and Leago Molefe claimed the titles of girls and boys junior championships, respectively. 

In an interview following the tournament, Jwaneng Mine Managing Director, Goitseone Gadifele expressed satisfaction with the event’s success over the three days. He said they sponsored the tournament with 150 000, as a way of promoting Jwaneng as a sporting hub. Gadifele noted the substantial participation of around 160 golfers which resulted in boosting local economy as  all guest houses were fully booked. 

He mentioned their plans to review community needs and decide on charitable projects for the funds raised. Cresta Marakanela Limited’s Managing Director, Mokwena Morulane praised the tournament’s success and the positive impact of sports tourism on the local economy. Morulane reiterated that proceeds from the tournament would support charitable causes and encouraged other towns to emulate Jwaneng’s initiatives in enhancing economic activities through sports. ENDS
