Calendar Stars FC are one step closer in their quest for a promotion to the Premier League after a 3-0 victory over Jwaneng Young Stars in the first leg of the promotional playoffs played at Francistown City Council Stadium on Saturday.
From the onset, Calendar Stars showed determination to secure a win. Dangerous forward Mogomotsi Madome opened the scoring in the 17th minute, unleashing a powerful shot that left the Young Stars goalkeeper, Isaac Moyo helpless. As the match progressed, Calendar Stars took control of the ball, making precise passes that delighted their supporters who filled the stands. Despite efforts to equalise, particularly through their wing play, Young Stars were unable to find the back of the net. The first half ended with Calendar Stars holding a 1-0 lead.
After the break, both teams returned with renewed focus, but Young Stars struggled to break through, as Calendar Stars’ goalkeeper, Tambani Bachopi, delivered a remarkable performance, thwarting several attempts on goal.
It was Fikile Motlhabi who struck again for Calendar Stars in the middle of the second half, taking advantage of errors from Young Stars. His stunning goal sparked jubilation among the home fans as the score extended to 2-0. Motlhabi was not done yet as he added a third goal in the dying moments of the match, sealing the victory for Calendar Stars.
In a post-match interview, Calendar Stars head coach Joseph ‘Chippa’ Mokgacha expressed satisfaction with the victory but acknowledged that the margin was not as secure as he had wished. Mokgacha highlighted the need for his team to adapt their strategy in the second half to address the threats posed by their opponents. He noted that they improved their overall performance and disciplined play, which contributed to their win.
Young Stars head coach, Matshidiso Moseki conceded defeat which he attributed to a series of mistakes from his team, but praised their effort and commitment throughout the match. ENDS
