Gaborone United Ladies Football are the 2025 DTCB Women’s Football Championship winners. ‘The Red Roses’ ran rampant over Orapa United in the finals played at National Stadium on Saturday, beating them 5-0 courtesy of Ontlametse Gaonyadiwe hat trick, and Nancy Baeletsi’s brace.
Qualifying for the finals, the Red Roses were not so ‘friendly’ to Selibe Phikwe based side Nico United as they thrashed them 14-0 in the semi-final on Friday. The win means that back-to-back champions will represent Botswana at the COSAFA Women’s Champions League.
GU Coach William ‘Raizor’ Monene said in an interview that since the start of the season, their eyes were focused on the ultimate prices; winning of the league and DTCB Championship.
These, he said would give them an opportunity to deal with their unfinished business at COSAFA Women’s Champions League.
At the last COSAFA Women’s Champions League, GU lost to University of the Western Cape (UWC) 9-8 on post-match penalties in the finals.
He praised players’ performance throughout the season.
“They understood the assignment and successfully delivered. Our aim was to win the two trophies, and qualify for COASAFA, and I am happy they delivered two out of three objectives so far,” he said.
Orapa United coach Buyani Mbulawa said he was happy with the players’ performance in their DTCB debut.
He said that at the beginning of the season, they aimed to play at the blocks play-offs and ultimately making it to the championships. He said making it to the finals, was an indication of hard work from the players.
For the individual awards, Red Roses players Lesego Radiakanyo won the player of the tournament, Tlamelo Pheresi was awarded the goalkeeper of tournament, while Gaonyadiwe was awarded the top goal scorer after scoring nine goals in the tournament whilst Monene won coach of the tournament and were each warded P10 000.
