This year’s Annual 70s and 80s Disco Party brought yesteryears magic with its tunes coupled with chic viby vintage outfits in Gaborone on Saturday.
Unfazed by the cold front forecast, the patrons thronged The Grand Palm Hotel Casino to relive their olden days.
The party started slowly with classic disco funk tunes and a mix of some American funk with DJ Strongtivity and DJ Kyle on the decks, evoking some nostalgia to the mature crowd in attendance.
The night got energetic and lively when Botswana’s finest O’Neal Africa took the stage and sent the crowd on cloud nine with his numbers. Many expected him to play old school hip hop and rhythm and blues as indicated on the concert’s line-up, but the talented O’Neal switched to African legendary tunes from the likes of Brenda Fassie, Yvonne Chaka Chaka, Spokes H, Caphius Semenya, Johny Mokhali and picking pace with Lucky Dube’s reggae hits.
O’Neal who oozed energy and enthusiasm set the scene for a fun evening with classics such as Let’s Stick Together, Promises, Mme Matswale, Homeboy, Red Red Wine, Thank You Mr DJ and many others once again giving his audience an experience worth their money.
Highlighting his unique and captivating nature of his musical creation, South Africa’s Lulo Café maintained the tempo kicking off his set with sentimental mellow house music and he did not go wrong with Come to My Sweet Melodies track, taking some back to their tertiary and college days, as they immersed themselves in his soulful house music mix classic vibes.
In true 70s and 80 style, the venue decorations was bold colours, retro iconic imagery with vintage radio posters for photo opportunities. Little dance and best dressed competition with walk away goodies from Collections by BK Proctor was a sherry on top for the revellers. ENDS
