BCA to celebrate World Cycling Day

04 Jun 2025

The Botswana Cycling Association, along with its affiliate clubs, will commemorate World Cycling Day this Friday at the Three Dikgosi Monument. The event aims to promote cycling as a healthy and eco-friendly mode of transportation and to advocate for safer roads and road safety awareness.

The celebration will feature a 20-kilometer ride and a 5-kilometer fun ride specially organised for children. Both activities are free to the public, encouraging community participation and highlighting the benefits of cycling for all ages.

World Cycling Day is more than just a celebration of a mode of transport; it symbolizes freedom, health, and the joy of riding a bicycle.

It also evokes nostalgic memories of learning to ride without training wheels and the exhilarating feeling of adventure that comes with every pedal stroke. Despite the occasional scratches and bruises from falls, cycling remains a cherished activity for enthusiasts.

As cyclists come together to mark the day, they renew their hopes for safer streets and better infrastructure. By observing this day, they underscore the importance of sustainable transportation options amid today’s busy and congested world.

Cycling offers numerous health benefits by engaging muscles and promoting physical activity. It is also an economically and environmentally friendly alternative to driving, with the added pleasure of feeling the cool breeze on a leisurely ride.

Under the theme: Cycling for a Sustainable Future, this year’s celebrations emphasises bicycles’ role in building healthier lifestyles, reducing carbon footprints, and supporting a cleaner planet.

The campaign calls on communities and governments to make cycling safer and more accessible for everyone.

The Botswana Cycling Association hopes that the celebration will inspire more people to embrace cycling as a sustainable and beneficial activity, fostering healthier communities and a greener environment. ENDS
