Toropo Ya Muka Music Festival ends with bang

The Toropo Ya Muka Music Festival drew to a close with a bang at the Obed Itani Chilume Stadium in Francistown on Saturday, as string of local artistes peformed to revellers who braved the chilly weather. 

The festival, which celebrated its 10th year anniversary, has been a hallmark of northern Botswana’s music scene since its inception in 2015.

On Saturday, artistes such as Chokoma and Juu Matere kept the crowd entertained with encouraging waves and dancing as various musical acts took the stage.

Chokoma electrified the stage with his popular songs while 

Juu Matere showcased his dance skills during his performance of Chobolo, igniting excitement among the crowd. 

The artistes’ energy was so infectious that the cold seemed to vanish as revelers sang along and fully engaged in the festivities.

South African artiste, Janesh Abi wa Mampela, known for her contributions to ‘Lekompo’ genre, who was accompanied by a talented team, also left a lasting impression with their captivating performance that resonated with the audience, creating an unforgettable experience.

Many attendees expressed their delight about the festival, despite the bittersweet feeling of it being the last edition. Lentswe Lentswe, a man in his early 30s, shared that he had attended the festival for years and considered the final event the best.

“Toropo Ya Muka Music Festival has been one of the biggest events in this region. It is unfortunate that this is the last edition. I wish they could consider having at least two more before ending it,” he said. 

Lentswe praised the overall experience and the effective security measures in place.

“I came with my friends to enjoy. I have heard so much about the Toropo Ya Muka Music Festival, and now that I am here, I can say it is superb. We’re having a great time,” said Anita Maboka, who is in her 20s and attended the festival for the first time. 

Local artiste DJ Kanchana, who attended as a guest rather than a performer, expressed appreciation for the festival, noting that despite the weather conditions, everything was well organised. 

He noted the growth of local music, with artistes continually improving their craft.

Other notable performers at the festival included various local DJs, Dr Vom, ATI, C-RU, The Beauty Queens, and many more. 

Toropo Ya Muka Music Festival may have closed its doors, but it certainly left a lasting legacy in the hearts of revellers. ENDS
