Ministry of Child Welfare and Basic Education is said to be aware of the obstacles facing the education system such as inadequate infrastructure, limited resources, poor working conditions for teachers, welfare concerns, and the growing issue of indiscipline among some students.

Speaking in Sefhare on Wednesday at the Maduo Pitso, Minister of Child Welfare and Basic Education Ms Nono Kgafela-Mokoka said these are not insurmountable barriers, but they require collective resolve to address them.  She said alternative strategies to overcome these hurdle must be explored. She assured all stakeholders who attended Maduo Pitso that her office is fully committed to supporting Tswapong South in this endeavour.

“We are working diligently to secure funding for school renovations, provide teaching materials, and improve the welfare of our educators and support staff. While the road ahead may be long, I promise you that we will not rest until every child in this sub-region has access to quality education,” she said.

Ms Kgafela-Mokoka applauded the efforts of the teachers, school heads, and support staff saying they are the backbone of the education system, working tirelessly under challenging conditions to mould the minds of future leaders.  She said their dedication to ensuring that students excel in their examinations, despite limited resources and infrastructure, was heroic. She applauded the parents, Village Development Committees, and Parents Teachers Associations for their role in supporting schools.

“From providing encouragement at home to contributing to school initiatives, you are the foundation upon which our children’s success is built,” she said.

She said children are not just students but are the nation’s future, and every effort that is made to explore new insights and implement alternative approaches to education is an investment in a prosperous Botswana.

Member of Parliament for Tswapong South, Dr Kesitegile Gobotswang said school buildings should be designed in such a way that they cater for learners with disabilities to ensure accessibility and allow all students to participate fully in the learning environment. ENDS
