Xere connected to Rakops water scheme

10 Feb 2014

Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) experienced intermittent water supply to Xere in August, 2013 due to erratic engine breakdowns.

The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, through Central District Council, bought two 10 000-litre water tanks during the same month to replace the old ones to ensure a constant supply of water for livestock in the event of a breakdown.

Responding to a question in Parliament on February 6, local government and rural development assistant minister, Ms Botlogile Tshireletso said the district council was working with WUC to solve the problem.

Xere is interconnected with Rakops water supply scheme and is supplied with drinking water for human consumption and livestock by WUC, she added.

The MP for Boteti North, Mr Slumber Tsogwane had wanted to know if the minister was aware that the livestock that was allocated to remote area dwellers under the Remote Area Development Programme for residents of Xere, were no longer supplied with drinking water as was originally the case.

Thee assistant minister  was also asked to state the reasons for this move. ENDS
