Police XI cruises past Notwane Footbal Club

25 May 2025

Police XI brought smiles and ecstasy to their supporters when they marched over the ailing Notwane Football Club 3-0 at Otse’s Botswana Police College on Saturday.

A brace from Lethabo Ogotseng in the 42nd and 64th minute as well as one from Vincent Lekorwe in the 88th minute gave Police XI the much needed win and shattered Notwane’s hope of making a quick comeback.

Paradzayi Mandivenga boys win solidified their return to the premier league, a dream they have been chasing without looking back as the top flight league opens more doors of opportunities coupled with many benefits.

Police XI head coach said he was happy that they had earned crucial points, which made sure they wrap up the league with championship and promotion to the big league.

“This is what we worked for and I am happy that we have achieved it,” said Coach Mandivenga.

He said even though they still had a game left against Holy Ghost to complete the league encounters, the chances of youngsters ever coming back were close to none.

The head coach thanked the management for their support together with the fans, whom he said supported them throughout and was grateful that the team did not disappoint, but came to the party with desired results.

The coach said even though they played with one man down after their striker, Tshepang Molefe was given a red card on the 38th minute, he told his players during recess that the game plan did not change, but they should work as team and win the game.

Coach Mandivenga said he told them that being one man down did not mean that they were thin on the ground, as the same thing happened when they played Tlokweng United, where they managed a 3-1 win.

Toronto Boys head coach, Daniel Nare said his team started poorly, adding that they bore the brunt of coming late to the game as they did not warm up, which affected his players psychologically.

He said he thought his players would take advantage of Police XI’s ill luck of losing one man, but they failed.

Coach Nare said there were some elementary mistakes that could have been avoided to stop Police XI from scoring.

He said in the second half he believed they had the game in control, but then the mistakes happened again, adding that Police XI’s second goal dampened his boys’ spirits even further, leading to own defeat.

“When they played Magosi last week they were a better team, but this time around they did not come to the party. In preparation for next season,  I will look at the players and pick those who can help them do better next season,” he said with optimism.

Police XI deserves a tap on the back as they roared with pride to the top flight league after their display with Notwane showed that they intended to send a strong message to other teams that they meant business.

The combination of Takudzwa Bande, Lethabo Ogotseng and Vincent Lekorwe were the deadliest that left Notwane defence in shambles.

Notwane captain, Mphoyamodimo Keiponye worked overtime to try and save his team, but his efforts lacked back up of his team mates, who disappointed on the day.

Despite scoring opportunities for the Toronto boys, their chances were wasted as none hit the desired mark, leading to more frustrations. ENDS
