25 May 2025

Calendar Stars FC is determined to secure a second-place finish in the First Division North league, which would grant them a chance to compete in the promotional playoffs. Their chance came after walloping Tshinyega Tigers FC 3-0 during a match held on Saturday at the Francistown City Council Stadium.

With the win, Calendar Stars FC accumulated 36 points, climbing to second place in the standings after Tsabotlhe FC which was on position two, suffered a 1-0 defeat to Makungulupeswa FC.

In a post-match interview, Calendar Stars FC Coach Joseph Mokgacha expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance, stating that they executed their game plan effectively. He emphasised the importance of securing maximum points in their remaining matches, noting that neither draws nor losses were acceptable at this stage.

“We have planned to win all our remaining games; we treat every match as a final. It’s been a while since we scored multiple goals in a game, and we are fighting hard and we remain hopeful,” said Coach Mokgacha.

Tshinyega Tigers FC Coach Kebby Tshitego acknowledged his players’ efforts, but pointed out their shortcomings to not converting scoring opportunities. “We played well but unfortunately didn’t win. My boys executed our game plan effectively, but after a goalless first half, we lost our momentum in the second half,” he reflected.

The match displayed strong tactical play from both teams, with Calendar Stars demonstrating a more aggressive approach. Tshinyega Tigers found themselves on the defensive for much of the match, managing to limit Calendar Stars’ scoring chances in the first half, which ended in 0-0.

The second half saw a shift in momentum as Calendar Stars displayed urgency to score. They broke the deadlock just two minutes after the restart, with Goitseone Mponang converting a free kick in the 47th minute. As the match progressed, Calendar Stars continued to put pressure on their opponent, with Moemedi ‘Mizer’ Mphuchane doubling their lead in the 79th minute.

Towards the dying minutes of the second half, Tshinyega Tigers FC succumbed to the relentless pressure, resulting in an own goal in the 90+1 minute, sealing a convincing 3-0 victory for Calendar Stars FC. With their sights set on the promotional playoffs, Calendar Stars FC will look to maintain their momentum in the upcoming fixture. ENDS
