World Athletics has granted the Golden Door Sports Agency, an opportunity to host a World Continental Tour Bronze.

This means Botswana International Cross Country (BICC) is part of the World Athletics bronze tour.

The event spokesperson, Calistus Kolantsho, told BOPA that they were granted the status after submitting a compelling application.

He said the country successfully hosted two Botswana International Cross Country events. After assessing the success of the second edition, which was held in Modipane, they then decided to submit an application to World Athletics for the Bronze status.

He said this was a sign of confidence by World Athletics, adding it was also an indication that they trust Golden Door Sports Agency as an entity that could push the mandate of promoting athletics.

.Kolantsho said currently Botswana was the only country in Africa which has the Cross Country tour bronze status.

“Our dream is that after two years or so, we are on the same level with Kenya given that they have a gold status,” he said.

He said the next edition now under new status, World Continental Tour Bronze will be held on December 13 in Modipane.

Kolantsho said the meet would help the athletes to accumulate points that would assist them to qualify for the World Athletics Cross Country Championships which will be held in Tallahassee, Florida USA in January. ENDS
