Magosi targets playoffs
18 May 2025
Ramotswa-based outfit, Magosi Football Club, which played to a one all draw with Notwane on Saturday, are targeting the promotional play-offs as their dream to gain automatic promotion have eluded them.
Magosi assistant coach, Ndzibi Bale said they came to the game with the mandate to take home three points to cement their position in the log. He said even though they conceded the first goal in the 18th minute as the boys were still shaky, they managed to come back to score even though that came in the dying minutes of the second half. Bale said they did not start well as Notwane tried to frustrate them with long balls, but the second half saw them come back much better with the introduction of two players who changed the play of the game.
“It was a frustrating game in the overall and they almost got the better of us, but we will go back to the drawing table and prepare for the last two games,” he said.
Bale further said they still had six points to play for, which they need to play for the play-offs. For the Toronto boys, their coach Daniel Nare was adamant that his boys wasted a lot of chances to bury Magosi and take three points home. He said they were in total control in the first half, as such, at least three goals should have been scored to settle for a win, "but the game of football sometimes does not go your way".
Nevertheless, Nare said in the overall they played well, especially that the team did not train well due to player work commitments. Being his first game with the team, Nare said he was impressed with their performance and looked forward to their next game with Police XI, which will give him more guidance pertaining to the strength of the team and plan for the next season.
He added that he was pleased that their game plan took off swiftly, enabling them to close on Magosi players and frustrate their efforts, which ultimately led to them scoring the first goal. In the second half, he said his players kept dropping, giving Magosi chances to score, which they ultimately did, meaning that the spoils were shared.
The scintillating game, which was played at Tlokweng VDC grounds, saw Toronto take the lead in the 18th minute through Tumelo Thebe after they kept Magosi under pressure. In the second half, Magosi came back more organised and zealous to score, but Notwane kept frustrating them until they were caught off guard in added time of the game, which saw Thabang Mooketsi squeeze the ball next to the post in the added minutes of the second half. The draw leaves Magosi on position three on the Debswana First Division South Log table with 34 points from 20 games while Notwane remains nestled at position seven with 25 points. ENDS
