Stage set for talk-of-the-village cultural festival

Music and cultural aficionados are gearing up for an unforgettable experience at the second edition of the Talk-Of-The-Village cultural festival slated for Talk Of The Village Gardens in Tonota on Saturday. 

With a stunning line-up featuring musical icons such as Frank Lesokwane of Franco and Afro Musica fame, Tsaya Thobane hit-maker, Dr Vom and Gaborone West-based trendsetter Kabelo Tiro, popularly known as Skavenja, among others, the festival is expected to captivate multitudes of revellers at the picturesque gardens of Tonota. 

Speaking on the sidelines of preparations ahead of the cultural and musical joint, event organiser Thapelo Maleka, also known as MC Maswe, said the much anticipated show was not only a music joint but in a way set to promote cultural heritage. He said various cultural activities were lined up for the day such as traditional cuisine and traditional dance. 

“It is not only a celebration of music, art and food, which draws crowds through a mixture of genres including jazz and contemporary music, among others, but it also stands out as a vibrant celebration of Setswana rich heritage and culture,” he added. 

Maleka said the theme for this year’s event is; Nation Building-Re chencha Dikakanyo’, which was in a way to transcend from mere music festival but promotion of the nation’s diverse cultures. He said it was all systems go and the gates would open at 8am to cater for young and old revellers throughout the day while night crawlers would be treated to a night of fun after 6pm. 

MC Maswe said there would be a kiddies corner and other children’s entertainment to keep young revellers on their toes until 6pm. The crowd will be treated to different mouth-watering Setswana dishes and poetry among other interesting cultural festivities of the day. 

The music festival boasts of a mix of traditional, contemporary and deejays performances to keep festival goers entertained throughout the night. Renowned radio personalities Lets Montsosa and Georginah Koboto-Sakarea will guide the proceedings to ensure an engaging experience. 

Some of the top performers billed to take to the stage are Johnny Mokhali, Culture Spears, DJ La Timmy, Ashley Gops, Slizer and rhumba outfit, Jeff Matheatau. Tickets for the event are P300 for VIP, P150 for a double entry and P100 for standard ticket. ENDS
