Gaborone United ladies team aka the Red Roses claimed the city’s bragging rights, beating Township Rollers ladies 2-0 in a Gaborone Region Division One Women’s League  game played at Royal Aria on Saturday.

The two goals were netted by Ontlametse Gaonyadiwe and Golebaone Selebatso to ensure that GU maintained its winning record. GU now occupy the top spot on the log with an unassailable 39 points, while Double Action is on position two with 29 points, with only one game remaining to wrap up the season. GU head coach William, ‘Raizor’ Monene told BOPA that he was happy with the players’ performance since Rollers was not a cheap side.

“If you look at the log standing, we have already won the championship, we have long finished three weeks back and as it stands we are only left with Mazottie next week. So, that’s why we have been changing the line up,” he said.

Monene said they were using the games to prepare for the coming DTCB women’s football championship southern block play offs. Township Rollers Ladies team coach, Kakale Mabechu said with 17 points the team remained on position five, and was preparing for the next season.

“As the transfer window opens in June, we should be the busiest team, bringing in new players to our team,” he said.

Mabechu said they needed a natural left back and wing for them to fully function and challenge for the honours next season. In other games, The Big Sisters and Untouchable played to a three all draw, Security systems won one nil against FC Ambassadors Double action won 2- 0 against UB Kicks, while struggling Geronah, were thrashed 12-0 by Wonder Girls. ENDS
