As the world celebrates Jazz International Month, Gaborone is tuning up for one of its most anticipated events, Jazz Under The Stars.
This marquee outdoor concert promises an unforgettable evening of live jazz music at Cresta Lodge today.
The stage is set for a powerhouse line-up, featuring jazz heavyweights, Socca Moruakgomo, Bhudaza Mapefane, and Amantle Brown. Speaking to BOPA about what the audience can expect, Moruakgomo kept it simple, “Songs of old that tug at the heartstrings. Jazz is timeless. The songs age like fine wine, and that’s what people always want. It reminds them of a certain time in their lives.”
Moruakgomo explained that Amantle Brown’s presence in the lline-uphad added a fresh touch that would appeal to the younger generation.
“We want this to be an all-inclusive event, one that speaks to both the young and the old,” he stated.
Reflecting on his journey, Bhudaza credited his long-standing career to a single driving force, passion.
“It’s the passion that has kept me going,” he said, noting that he was still working on new music.
For this performance, however, he’ll be treating fans to beloved classics.
BOPA also caught up with Amantle Brown during her rehearsal. As she rehearsed her hit song, Follo, the familiar tune took on a new life with a soulful, jazz-infused rendition.
“It’s slower, more heartfelt,” she said. “I want it to take people to church.”
Grateful for the opportunity, Amantle Brown expressed her surprise and humility at being selected to perform alongside such legendary names.
“I don’t know why me, but I believe it can only be God,” she said. “It’s such an honour to share the stage with veterans like Moruakgomo and Budhaza.”
When asked what songs she plans to perform, she hinted Black Mampatile and paused, “just know I’ll be performing songs from my career debut along with a few recent hits.” ENDS
