Sport administration qualifications are not a prerequisite for anyone to serve at any level of the constituency tournament structures, the Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture has said.

Answering a question from Letlhakeng West MP on Tuesday, February 4, Minister Shaw Kgathi said they considered passion for sport, spirit of volunteerism as well as the ability to coordinate the day to day proceedings of the tournament.

He said constituency tournaments were administered by volunteers with the help of district commissioners’ officers who also chaired the district sport committees. Minister Kgathi said they were assisted by other stakeholders in districts such as local authorities and staff from constituency offices.

He said the officers were given an induction focusing mainly on guidelines for managing constituency sport tournaments. MP Ngaka Ngaka had asked the minister whether there was a training programme or orientation for those administering constituency tournaments, and further state how their qualifications in sports administration are determined.
