Government enables private sector to thrive

12 Feb 2025

Construction of integrated offices by government has been phased out to create an enabling environment for the private sector to provide office accommodation.

Standing in for the Minister of Lands and Agriculture, the Minister of Communications and Innovation Mr David Tshere appreciated the advantage of bringing government offices under one building to achieve synergy and one stop service centre.

However, he said the programme for the construction of integrated offices by government had been phased out to provide an enabling environment for the private sector to provide such service.

He said the decision was reflected in the ongoing preparation of National Development Plan 12 where a chapter that dedicated to real estate, finance and business services had been introduced. He said the last integrated office block constructed by government was Dithuso House in Jwaneng which was completed in 2005.

At present, he said each ministry was responsible for the procurement of its office space and where need be, the space was leased from the private market. Lobatse MP Mr Kamal Jacobs had asked the minister to consider constructing government integrated offices in Lobatse that were promised during the late honourable Sebego’s tenure. ENDS
