Road project on hold pending DM review outcome

Kaudwane road has been suspended pending the ongoing review of the Development Manager (DM) Model.

Responding to parliamentary question, Assistant Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Mr Keoagile Atamelang, informed the house that, the review was effected in January 13 2025 and is expected to be completed within a period of 40 days.

He however, noted that, the outcome of the review would further guidance on the way forward regarding the project. He informed the house that consultations between the task team and different stakeholders were still underway.

He said the scope of the project covered 95km road stretch estimated at a tune of P1.2 billion being preview findings. He said the quantum of labour force to be employed would only be known upon the engagement of sub-contractors during their recruitment of the required labour expertise.

Furthermore, he said construction activities on the road had not yet commenced as the project was at feasibility stages, that encompassed concept designs and project viability which he said were expected to be completed in May 2025.

He added that, these activities amongst others would include engagements with utility service providers in the likes of Botswana Power Corporation, Water Utilities Corporation and Botswana Telecommunication Corporation regarding the relocation of their services and other possible expropriations along the road.

Moreover, he said, completion time of the project was currently unknown given the current status of the project adding that such would be established upon completion of the DM review findings.

Member of Parliament for Letlhakeng, Brigadier Domcaza Mokgwathi had asked the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure to apprise the house on the procurement status and management of Letlhakeng-Kaudwane tarred road.

He also asked for further updates on the total cost, quantum of labour force to be employed, commencement and completion time of the project. ENDS
