TAFIC FC continued their winning streak by walloping Matebele FC 3- 1 during the FNB Premiership encounter at Francistown City Council Stadium on Saturday.
The victory saw TAFIC maintain their three points gap ahead of second placed Township Rollers at the top of the log with 33 points from 15 matches.
The game which was played under good weather conditions, saw TAFIC aka Matjimenga and Matebele, also known as Kuka Ntsu, neck-to-neck in the first half, with either team working hard to make its presence felt on the pitch.
It was on the 23rd minute that TAFIC showed their determination to win as they opened the score sheet through a beautiful kick from Thatayaone Nkwapa.
As the game progressed, Matebele kept on visiting TAFIC’s posts without being demoralised by their opponent’s lead.
However, the game continued to go both ways as the two teams showed hunger for goals. Both goal keepers were kept busy as players repeatedly tried to find the back of the net.
Matebele kept their fighting spirit alive and on the brink of halftime, their prayers were heard through Boyo Lechaena’s well taken shot, sending the game to recess with a 1-1 score.
In the second half, TAFIC displayed good football, mounting pressure on their opponent. Though the Matebele goalkeeper did well, he was beaten again on the 69th minute by Kazadi Gaukhier as he shot from a range.
TAFIC ramped up the tempo of the game as they kept on attacking Matebele, which proved quite resilient to the pressure.
On the 73rd minute, TAFIC found the back of the net again through Jeagogo Lwamba.
In a post-match interview, TAFIC’s assistant coach, Thatayaone Sonny said despite the head coach Ellias Chinyemba being on a red card, there was no pressure on their side as their mission was to collect maximum points from every game they played.
He said their technical team had good coordination hence the team played well even without its head coach on the bench.
For his part, Matebele FC coach Sean Connor said his charges fought well, though they were playing a better side on the day. He said while the first half was even, TAFIC’s second goal changed things.
Connor said though after the goal, his players tried their all to hold on things went haywire for the team.
