'Serve with integrity'

15 Jan 2025

President Advocate Duma Boko has challenged the cabinet to prioritise integrity, accountability, and meaningful action in their new journey as servants of the people.

President Boko further emphasised the need for self-reflection to serve the nation better, saying the former was key to growth and good leadership.

The President was speaking at the official opening of the orientation workshop for members of the 13th cabinet in Gaborone yesterday. The workshop aimed at fostering teamwork and enhancing the cabinet performance.

He also encouraged them to move beyond personal egos and think of doing good for the collective.

Advocate Boko urged the ministers to critically evaluate their habits and behaviour, ensure that they aligned with their duties as servants and also to view their roles as more than positions of power but opportunities to push for institutional transformation.

Work as a united team, focusing on shared goals rather than personal ambitions, embrace reform, act decisively on societal issues and lead with integrity, President Boko said.

He raised concern about Gender-Based Violence that he regarded as a national crisis and not an individual responsibility, calling for urgent introspection on how the society addressed it.

Welcoming ministers to the retreat, Minister for State President, Mr Moeti Mohwasa acknowledged the challenges that came with government transition since this was the first change of leadership in the country’s history.

Since taking office, he said cabinet had held regular meetings to focus on fulfilling their mandate.

Minister Mohwasa said there had been a lot to learn in new their roles, such as understanding various tools and processes in government operations. ENDS
