Some hawkers have complained that the P1 000 demanded from them as rental fees for stalls by organisers of various choir competitions in Kgatleng is too high.
One of the food vendors at Mabolaelo lands, Ms Onalenna Rapelana of Mochudi, said in an interview that the fee was too much.
Ms Rapelana however said business was good at the choirs. She said it was her first time trying to earn money out of selling food at the choirs.
“My friend and i did not want to be broke when the kids needed school uniform next week. We therefore decided to try to make money here at Mabolaelo grounds. The business was going well as customers kept on piling pressure over us in demand for foodstuffs and thirst-quenchers,” she said.
Another female vendor, Ms Pearl Mphukuthi from Boseja ward in Mochudi, said she found streets of gold at the choirs. She said selling at the choirs made quick profits because people were gathered in one space resulting in a rise in the demand.
Ms Mphukuthi, who could not hide her joy, said catering at the choir grounds could help one make money at ease than elsewhere.
The 22-year-old said she had been in the industry for the past four years and she usually set her stall across various grounds during the festive season.
She advised unemployed youth to try catering to uplift themselves from poverty.
Apart from high stall rentals the vendors indicated that the grounds were located far from resources, thus costly when they had to hire vehicles to take routine trips to buy stock from Mochudi. ENDS
