Lobatse pipeline to bring lasting solution to Mmankgodi
17 Dec 2024
The Assistant Minister of Water and Human Settlement, Mr Onneetse Ramogapi on Monday told Parliament that connection to Lobatse Master Plan Water pipeline would bring a long lasting solution to Mmankgodi.
Mr Ramogapi said the connection of Mmankgodi pipeline was completed and awaiting commissioning.
He said the village needed rehabilitation of the water distribution network as well as its expansion and network upgrade.
The assistant minister said the project was not included in the Transitional National Development Plan but had been submitted for consideration in the National Development Plan (NDP) 12.
He said Mmankgodi was supplied with 600 million cubic metres per day against a demand of 874 million cubic metres per day.
Further, he said the network distribution was constructed in 1989 and had passed its 10 year life span. He further said Goo Mmusi ward was in a higher elevation and as such, water pressure reaching the ward was inadequate.
Mr Ramogapi said Di Line, Dirokolwe and Goo Keipeile experienced shortages due to the inadequate supply resulting in rationing intervention while Ramothabeng was not serviced.
The minister said the Water Utilities Corporation planned to construct a 500 cubic metre tank on a 15 metre stand to address both storage and pressure limitations. The assistant minister explained that the project was at adjudication stage and the tender was expected to be awarded in February 2025.
“Full beneficiation from the newly commissioned Lobatse Water Master Plan project and construction of a new water tank will significantly improve water supply to the Mmankgodi village,” he said.
Gabane-Mmankgodi MP, Kagiso Mmusi had asked the minister if there were any plans to have a long-lasting solution to supply Mmankgodi with enough water as the village experienced shortages especially in Ramothabeng, Di line, Dirokolwe, Goo Keipeile and Goo Mmusi wards. Ends
