Liswaani school ablution block nears completion

04 Dec 2024

The ongoing ablution block project at Liswaani I Junior Secondary School in Kachikau is expected to be complete by end of next month.

Responding to a question in Parliament recently, the Minister of Child Welfare and Basic Education, Ms Nono Kgafela-Mokoka said the ministry was aware of the state of pit latrines at the school, hence the Ministry of Local Government and Traditional Affairs was constructing a new ablution block through the Constituency Community Projects.

She said while the existing pit latrine facilities included 24 toilets at hostels and 16 at academic facilities, the new project scope entailed eight bay toilets for girls and five for boys, both inclusive of paraplegic access, as well as four urinals.

She said the project was undertaken by a citizen Development Manager, HSNV Minning.

Chobe MP, Mr Simasiku Mapulanga had asked the minister to state when the pit latrines would be eradicated at the school as they were a health hazard to pupils and the environment.

He also asked when the ministry intended to fence the school with an electric fence, to deter wild animals and improve the safety of employees and pupils. Ends
