This year’s independence holiday could be labelled a blessed one particularly for A30 and A3 highways because both had zero fatal accidents.
The two highways, A30 (Francistown-Orapa) and A3 (Francistown-Maun) are notorious for fatal accidents during holidays.
Tatitown Police Station commander, Superintendent Boipuso Baatweng told BOPA that the two highways did not record any fatal accident apart from one incident in which a truck overturned near Marapong junction.
“These two highways, infamous for their history of fatal accidents during holidays were different this year, much to the relief of law enforcement and motorists alike,” said Superintendent Baatweng.
He expressed gratitude to the motorists for cooperating with the police, attributing the success to collective effort.
Supt Baatweng commended drivers for adhering to traffic regulations, driving responsibly and staying alert during the holiday.
However, he said the police were investigating the cause of the accident which saw the driver of a truck escaping with minor injuries.
Meanwhile, the station commander of Francistown Central Police Station, Superintendent Mogomotsi Kesupile also reported a relatively calm independence holiday with only minor offences such as common nuisance and street mugging being recorded.
He said the independence holiday festivities, which typically experienced an increase in social gatherings were closely monitored by the law enforcement agencies, to ensure safety and security of the people of Francistown.
Supt Kesupile commended the efforts of the police and the community in maintaining order and following regulations during the holiday period.
“Despite a few incidents of common nuisance and street mugging, the overall atmosphere in Francistown remained peaceful and celebratory,” he added.
He expressed his gratitude to the residents of Francistown for behaving responsibly and urged them to continue to work with the police to maintain peace and security in the city.
“As the independence holiday came to a close, residents of Francistown can look back on a celebration marked by calm and order, thanks to the dedication and vigilance of local law enforcement authorities,” said Superintendent Kesupile. Ends
