Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) deputy leader, Mr Ndaba Gaolathe says with a change of government, the young generation can realise their dreams.
Speaking at the launch of UDC’s prospective parliamentary and council candidates for Mogoditshane West on Sunday, Mr Gaolathe said, “I believe that our young people can become whatever they aspire to be, but this can only happen if we have a change in government.”
He said the country was divided into two distinct worlds: one for the privileged few, where people enjoyed good health, lucrative jobs, and a comfortable life and another where young people with talents were struggling to make ends meet and families living in poverty, unable to access basic amenities such as decent health care and job opportunities.
Mr Gaolathe said a unified Botswana was possible under the leadership of the UDC, stating that they would ensure equal opportunities for all citizens, regardless of background or circumstances.
He stated that Botswana, once renowned for its democratic and economic prowess, had fallen from grace under the current administration.
“The current administration has dismantled our once powerful companies and corporations, such as BCL and BMC among others, leaving them in tatters,” said Mr Gaolathe and added that they had eroded the very foundations of the country’s democracy and economy.
He therefore, urged the electorate to remember the glory days and work together to restore what used to be, by voting for the UDC on October 30.
To the prospective MP candidate, Mr Ndaba said Mr Galenawabo Lekau was a humble hardworking man who embodied the true spirit of team work. He urged Mogoditshane West constituents to vote for him in large numbers.
Alliance for Progressives (AP), deputy leader Mr Wynter Mmolotsi called for a change in leadership.
Mr Mmolotsi stated that Batswana’s frustration with the current government was apparent in the 2019 elections, where they voted in a fit of indignation.
However, he said after five years of the current regime, that the ruling party has failed to honour its promises and warned Batswana not to vote Batswana vote for Botswana Democratic Party (BDP).
The UDC prospective candidate for Mmopane/Metsimotlhabe, Ms Pushie Manyeneng, highlighted BDP government’s shortcomings, specifically in the areas of land allocation, and health care.
She said the BDP government had failed to distribute land in Mogoditshane fairly, adding that healthcare in the country was in shambles, owing to shortage of medication in hospitals and clinics.
She therefore, said under the UDC manifesto, they would prioritse healthcare and provide pre and post-natal care for expectant mothers and give P300 for every child born.
For his part, Mr Lekau said the only message he had for the electorate was to vote for the UDC in large numbers in the coming general elections. Ends
