The Chinese community on Saturday celebrated its annual event themed; ‘Botswana Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival Temple Fair” in Gaborone.
The event, funded by Botswana Charity Foundation of Chinese, had stopped due to COVID-19 in the previous years.
President of the Botswana Chinese General Chamber of Commerce Mr Hu Zhongwen said they had invited local artists in order to strengthen the exchange and integration of Bozhong Chinese culture and to enrich the content of the Temple Fair.
“Though the event aims to publicise and promote Chinese culture, it also has a far reaching social and cultural significance. In China the Mid-Autumn festival is a traditional reunion festival,” he explained.
Mr Zhongwen pointed out that through the activities of the occasion, the Chinese community sought to promote the building of bridges of communication between Batswana and Chinese nationals, as well as enhance mutual understanding and friendship.
“Through this activity we will promote community construction and encourage the Chinese community to actively carry out charitable welfare activities,” he noted.
Gaborone Mayor, Mr Austin Abraham encouraged Batswana to welcome people of other nationalities and different cultures to drive Botswana to an inclusive culturally diverse nation.
Mr Li Dong, Chairman of Overseas Service Centre, encouraged the Chinese Community not only to show their culture but also learn from other nations’ cultures. Ends
